Google Ad Budgets: Maximizing Success for Small Businesses

The whole world of Google advertising, SEO, and online marketing can seem very overwhelming, especially if you are a small business owner.  And one of the first questions we often get from potential clients is about Google Ad Budgets.  Essentially, how much do you need to spend on Google efforts in order to be successful?

We wish we could give you an easy answer. Spend $5/day and guarantee getting on the first page of results!  Double your business within a month! Wouldn’t that be lovely?

But no, there is a lot of variability between industries in terms of the amount you have to spend bidding on keywords. Google Ad budgets in, say the service industry, might mean placing a significantly higher bid to get a high page result. We have found that our clients in the home contracting or HVAC industry, for example, have a lot of competition for keyword bids.

But that doesn’t mean we can’t provide you with some tried-and-true options for increasing your online marketing power without breaking the bank.

Maximize Success and Minimizing Spending for Google Ad Budgets

One thing that we recommend to clients is doing Ad Words Express in addition to Ad Words because there is less competition overall.  Several of our clients have noted significant success with this approach.

We also suggest using the Google Ads Display Network. This places ads on websites that are relevant to your business or product, and it results in you getting a lot more impressions for less money.

A third recommendation for Google Ad budgets is starting small and building up. If you begin with $3 to $5 a day, you will begin to get a sense of what your competitors are spending and what kind of click activity you can generate.  With this knowledge, you can determine how much you reasonably need to spend for the results you want. Starting off too high and then trying to decrease your spend can prove to be challenging, so we really recommend incremental increases.
