Is Remarketing Right for Your Business?

Though the term might seem unfamiliar, we can almost guarantee that you have experienced “remarketing” in the past week. Say you were shopping for some lovely Pottery Barn throw pillows for your mother’s Christmas gift. And then you popped on over to Facebook and saw those same pillows haunting you on the right side of your feed. This is called remarketing.

Is Remarketing Right for Your Business?

Though some people find this incredibly creepy (especially the first time they notice it happening), most big companies now use this as a strategy. We have also had luck using it with some of our clients in the past few months. Given the overwhelming amount of information we are all processing every day, remarketing campaigns help cut through the distraction and bring us back to something we were thinking about earlier in the day.

Though it is obviously most helpful for online retailers, many other businesses can benefit from this marketing approach as well. For instance, if you run an HVAC company, someone might visit your website when they are thinking about scheduling a furnace tuneup. Then they receive a phone call or see an incoming email and are pulled away from your site. If you have set up a Google remarketing campaign, that potential customer will later see your ads as they browse websites that are part of the Google Display Network or search for terms related to your services on Google. The hope is that they will then be reminded of their task from earlier in the day and come back to your site to finish the job.

Setting Up a Remarketing Campaign

A remarketing campaign can be set up as part of a larger Google AdWords effort. It should not be treated as a standalone effort. What we recommend is a good blend of AdWords and AdWords Express, with a little remarketing thrown in on the side. Remarketing ads have a lower cost than standard pay-per-click ads, making them easy to integrate into your overall marketing budget.
