SEO Blog Writing: What Is It and How Can You Do It Better

We recently had a client ask about why the blogs for his business didn’t sound quite like something he would write himself. This is a very valid question, and the answer has to do with the requirements of SEO blog writing. SEO means search engine optimization.

seo blog writing denverWebsites can be designed for SEO, meaning that Google or other search engines can find them easily and put them high on the search results page. If you have an HVAC company in Denver, you really want your page to show up if someone searches for “HVAC Denver.” So there are a lot of pieces that contribute to that result, but as we have discussed before, blogging can be an important boost that allows you to be found more easily. Blog posts act as discrete web pages that can be found by search engines, so if you write a lot about specific topics relating to your industry, it increases your likelihood of getting high up on the search results page.

The Art of SEO Blog Writing

All that said, SEO blog writing is definitely a specific art. There are certain elements that “count” when it comes to SEO blog writing. One of the most important pieces is your keyword. You are trying to match your topic with what someone might actually be searching for regarding your business. So your keyword could be “ceiling fan advantages” or “best home contractor in Denver.” Or “SEO blog writing” 🙂 You need to make sure that your keyword is relevant and that it is expressed clearly throughout your blog post (but DO NOT just repeat a keyword over and over thinking that will boost your SEO–the search engines are smarter than this trick!).

Headings and subheadings are also important; it’s essential that your keyword is included in your headings. These give the search engines a little hint that “oh, this is an important topic!” Images function the same way–all images should be tagged with alt text that includes your keyword, which allows the search engines to find it.

There are also a lot of little factors like word count of content and title, meta description, outbound links, and more. But it is also important to try to stay true to your voice and interests–while SEO blog writing might not sound as natural as what you would write on a personal blog, you also want to avoid that “written by a robot” tone.
