Why Should You Get a New Logo?

Logos can be a rather emotional topic for business owners. If you’ve had a logo for a long time, it is intimately wrapped up with your brand, and it can be very hard to let that go. But while we do preach brand consistency, there are definitely times when a new logo is necessary (and can actually help to better capture a brand that has evolved over time).

Here are a few reasons why you might think about adopting a new logo for your business:

  • Depending on your website platform, you may actually be forced to update your logo. Certain themes that you buy may not support old fonts. You may also find that a fresh, new website makes your old logo look a little tired. If you’re going for a sleeker look overall, you want your logo to match.
  • Some of our clients are scared that a new logo will seem too trendy, but keeping up with the times is part of appearing professional and pulled together online. You don’t want your potential customers to look at your outdated logo and question whether you let other things slide as well.

Convinced, but still a little nervous about the process? Here are a few things that can make new logo design a little less painful.

  • You don’t have to start from scratch. If your old logo does express something about your business very well but perhaps has outdated fonts and looks a little rough around the edges, a good graphic designer can make subtle tweaks to the existing logo to create a more polished version.
  • We do recommend hiring a professional designer to help. Beyond making your logo look great, they can provide a range of file types and make sure that it is sized properly to fit on business cards, Facebook pages, etc.
  • Try to think of it as fun, or at least as a good moment to take stock of your business and how you want to convey it to the world. Small businesses often subtly change focus over time as they narrow in on their target market and discover what they truly love to do, so this is your chance to make sure that your logo reflects your growth as a business owner.
